Tell us about you. What do you do? What inspires you?
Hi! My name is George Underwood, I’m a Taurus, an ENFJ, and a freelance photographer based in Brooklyn NY. I live with my partner, Arianna, and our two dachshunds, Hazel & Junie. I’m a content creator working with brands, including MINNA, and I make art about society, time, and technology.
I'm influenced by large format photographers of the 70s and 80s and inspired by light and the events of life. It is amazing what you can see when you open up to everything going on around you. People will never stop surprising me.
How would you describe your creative process?
Technical with a side of chance and a pinch of humor. No matter how much you prepare or set up a shot you have to allow for the element of surprise.
What are three words to describe your design aesthetic?
Quiet, Graphic, Amusing.
At MINNA we believe in creating beautiful, ethically made products and using business to do good - how do these concepts relate to or inspire your life?
Working with Minna has changed the way I buy goods. I want to know the story of how something was created. I try to shop small and research the things I buy.
What about your home makes it feel like home? What is a favorite memory of yours in your home?
As I write this, It has been 7 months of living in NYC during a pandemic. I also have a browser open looking at apartments because my building was recently sold and I have to move. My idea of home has changed so much. Home is wherever my family is. Home is New York City.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Laughter is the best medicine.
