How did you get started with Automic Gold?
I am a refugee to USA and when I came in 2009 (right after the 2008 crisis) without money, education or English. It was very hard to find work, so I kinda had no choice but to start my own thing.
At MINNA we believe in creating beautiful, ethically made products and using business to do good - how do these concepts relate to or inspire your process/brand/life?
I relate very much! All of these are very important to me and my business. We produce everything in house in our studio in NYC, from only reclaimed metals and all of the designs are worn and tested for a month before being produced, so we make sure we not only create beautiful, but wearable pieces as well!
What about your home makes it feel like home? What is a favorite memory of yours in your home?
Hm, design for sure. Design and decor is very important for me and creates a relaxing, inspiring atmosphere I want to be in. I just moved btw and realized i had more boxes marked as decor than boxes with useful stuff. I like colors, textures, history and collecting vintage books both as decoration and investment, The oldest book I have is from 1870 and I thrifted it for $18!
What are you reading/listening to/watching/looking at lately?
This quarantine got me addicted to Tiktok and I think the next generation will lead us to a much needed revolution if they can stay on top of algorithms!
Also just recently i learned from a teenager on Tiktok (!!) that my ethnicity is indigenous with endangered language and it shook my world.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
If you try to catch two bunnies at the same time, you will catch zero.
