In Pacasmayo, a small town on the northern coast of Peru, we work with a group of women who specialize in a hybrid of European crochet and traditional backstrap loom weaving. This technique is only found in the Andes and since it doesn't require a machine or loom, it's convenient for the women to work on their weavings at home. Traditionally, this technique is used to make small bags, coca leaf bags, and blankets. At MINNA, it is used to create our woven baskets.
