Years Working Together
- Backstrap Loom
The drive to Pantelhó from San Cristóbal, the capital of Chiapas, takes about two hours through winding, mountainous dirt roads. Here we work with two women-run co-ops made up of over 30 women.
They weave using traditional backstrap looms that are worn around their hips, which allows for each panel to only be as wide as the weaver’s hips wearing it. After each panel is woven, they hand stitch them together to create our Pantelho throws and baby blankets.
