- Backstrap Loom

Cancuc is about a two hour drive from San Cristóbal, the capital city of Chiapas, through winding mountain roads. Once in the main town, we have about a mile walk to the co-op we work with. This group is lead by three young sisters who weave on backstrap looms.

This technique creates incredibly detailed patterns that almost appear to be embroidered, but are in fact woven. The inherent geometry of this technique helped inspire the forms of our Barragan pillows.
