A heavyweight cotton blanket, the Pantelho Throw in Cerulean + Sage is handwoven on a backstrap loom in three panels and then expertly embroidered together. A neutral color palette perfect for any room. Drape it over the foot of your bed or cozy up on the couch. Handwoven by a cooperative of women in Chiapas, Mexico.

Made by Backstrap Weavers in Pantelhó, Mexico

The drive to Pantelhó from San Cristóbal, the capital of Chiapas, takes about two hours through winding, mountainous dirt roads. Here we work with two women-run cooperatives made up of over 30 women. One is led by a mother-daughter duo, and the other by a group of sisters.

About these artisans

They weave using traditional backstrap looms that are worn around their hips, which allows for each panel to only be as wide as the weaver’s hips wearing it. After each panel is woven, they hand stitch them together to create our Pantelho throws, baby blankets, and floor pillows.
