Guatemala Trip — September 2017

· · Comments
MINNA's first journal post!

We decided it was time to start a log of all of my trips to work with our artisan partners. We'll keep updating here, so check back often.

I spent 10 days traveling through Guatemala, visiting our current artisan partners and meeting with new ones. It was quite the whirlwind with stops in Antigua, Chichicastenango, Guatemala City, Nauhuala, Comalapa, Santiago Atitlan, Momostenango, San Juan La Laguna, and more. It was incredible to sit at the looms with the weavers and watch new ideas come to life before my eyes. I got to check on current productions and also get started on some new rugs and cotton pillows for Spring Summer 2018!

Hope you enjoy the highlights below! You can shop our collection from Guatemala here.

Textiles in the market in Chichicastenago.
At the home of the rug and pillow weavers we work with in Momostenango
Testing new textures at the loom with our head rug weaver Luis.
The Formas II Pillow on the loom.
Sunrise towels on the looms in Nahuala.
Manuel and his family. Manuel is the head weaver of our stripe tea towels, napkins and beach towels.
Initial ikat experiments with a cooperative in San Juan La Laguna.
Toured The New Denim Project Factory in Guatemala City. They recycle denim into cotton threads and we're hoping to start using them in new products next season!
Texture tests with The New Denim Projects yarns.
Working with Mario at the loom in Momostenango.
